In an interview with Ms. Rodrigue, she briefly discussed the World Language Club. She said that World Language club is about different cultures from around the world and learning about their celebration, food, and art. Anybody in any grade in the school can join the club. She stated very clearly that this is more of a cultural club than a language club. This club starts in October and ends in May, so this club is active through most of the school year. Ms. Rodrigue and the other world language teachers work very hard to put this together. “We meet for one hour, but for the teachers, it takes 3 to 4 hours to prepare.” That is true dedication!

She also stated that “Learning about different cultures makes you a better citizen because it makes you more open to understanding people who are different and don’t have the same background as you.” In the club, you will learn about the food, flags, how people dress, their habits, what types of things they do, and their routine and preparation. The world language advisors are French and Spanish so they are definitely teaching those cultures to whoever joins the club. In addition to that, they will try to mix in some different cultures like Indian, Scandinavian, Italian, and German. You have to recognize the significance of learning about other people’s lives. Not everyone is the same as you and that’s okay and it’s even better to learn about their daily lives to better understand them. Ms. Rodrigue and the other world language advisors certainly emphasize the importance of this.
